Novena for a Job
A powerful nine-day prayer to seek honest employment, perseverance in the search, and the grace to offer your work to God. This traditional novena helps us trust in Providence while we look for a livelihood that feeds a household and serves our neighbor.
About the Novena for a Job
The Novena for a Job is a nine-day prayer for Catholics who are unemployed, between jobs, underemployed, or seeking work that can honestly support a family. It is not a charm to force an employer. It is a petition for daily bread, for dignity, and for the courage to keep looking without despair.
From the beginning God put man in the garden to till it. After the Fall, work became toil, but it did not cease to be a good. The Church teaches the dignity of labor: a job is more than a wage. It is a way of participating in God's providence, serving the common good, and providing for those entrusted to us. St. Joseph, carpenter and guardian of the Holy Family, is the first companion of this novena.
Each day focuses on a different aspect of the search: trust, the meaning of work, perseverance, skill, justice, family, freedom from anxiety, service, and thanksgiving. Pair this novena with the Novena for Financial Help and the Novena for Clarity if you are also discerning a vocation or a change of career.

How to Make an Excellent Novena
Trust in God
Trust completely in God's ability to provide work in His time. Turn to Him with confidence in every interview, delay, and closed door.
Be Persistent
Pray this novena with persistence and keep looking for work. Prayer and effort belong together. God will not fail those who turn to Him with trust.
Be Specific
Present your specific need: a position, a just wage, a next interview, or the grace to stay in a hard job. God wants to help you with the particular difficulty you face.
Be Grateful
Thank God for skills you already have, for work you have done, and for daily bread so far. Gratitude opens the heart to receive more graces.
The Three Theological Virtues
Faith
Believe that God is a Father who knows you need bread. Trust that honest work is part of His care, not a prize you must snatch from Him.
Hope
Hope in God's timing when the inbox is silent. Do not let delay make you bitter or idle. He is not late in the way the world is late.
Love
Love God and your neighbor through the work you seek. Ask not only for a job, but for a way to serve with a clean heart.
