Novena for a Job – Day 6: Family and Daily Bread
Join in praying the Novena for a Job to seek honest work, perseverance, and God's provision.
Today's Focus: Family and Daily Bread
On this sixth day we pray that work would serve those entrusted to us. A job exists for bread, rent, and the care of a household — not to devour the people it was meant to feed.
Prayer for Day 6
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Heavenly Father, you set us in families and taught us to pray for daily bread. We ask for work that can support those you have given us: spouse, children, parents, or anyone who depends on our labor.
Give us this day our daily bread, and a livelihood that does not steal the day from those we love.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be, world without end.
Amen.
Heavenly Father, provide for our household! If we are single, provide what we need to live honestly. If we have a family, let our work be a gift to them, not a rival.
We also pray for these intentions… (State your need for work here)
Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be
Holy Family of Nazareth, pray for us!
Reflection for Today
Today we pray for family and daily bread. Work is for persons. When a job consumes the home, something has gone wrong — even if the pay is good.
1 Timothy 5:8 is severe: "If any one does not provide for his relatives, and especially for his own family, he has disowned the faith and is worse than an unbeliever." Provision is a duty of love, not a careerist slogan.
St. Joseph provided in silence: tools, travel to Egypt, a house in Nazareth. He did not preach about work-life balance. He simply put bread on the table and kept the Child safe. Ask him to teach that hidden fidelity.
If your family is strained by unemployment, bring them into this prayer by name. If you have no family, remember that the parish and the poor are also a household of God.
Remember that daily bread is daily. God did not teach us to pray for ten years of security in one night. He taught us to ask for today, and to work for today, and to sleep.
How to Make an Excellent Novena
Trust in God
Trust completely in God's ability to provide work in His time. Turn to Him with confidence in every interview, delay, and closed door.
Be Persistent
Pray this novena with persistence and keep looking for work. Prayer and effort belong together. God will not fail those who turn to Him with trust.
Be Specific
Present your specific need: a position, a just wage, a next interview, or the grace to stay in a hard job. God wants to help you with the particular difficulty you face.
Be Grateful
Thank God for skills you already have, for work you have done, and for daily bread so far. Gratitude opens the heart to receive more graces.
Closing Prayer
Heavenly Father, provide for our household. Give us work that feeds those you have entrusted to us, and the wisdom not to let labor devour the people it was meant to serve. Holy Family, pray for us. Amen.
