Novena for a Job – Day 4: Skill and Wisdom
Join in praying the Novena for a Job to seek honest work, perseverance, and God's provision.
Today's Focus: Skill and Wisdom
On this fourth day we pray for skill and wisdom: a teachable mind, the right words in interviews, and the judgment to know which door to enter.
Prayer for Day 4
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Heavenly Father, you give gifts to each of your children: mind, hands, speech, and the capacity to learn. We offer you the abilities we have, and we ask for those we still need in order to serve well.
The Holy Spirit is the giver of counsel and understanding.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be, world without end.
Amen.
Heavenly Father, grant us skill and wisdom! Guide our résumés, our interviews, and our choices. Let us neither hide our gifts nor pretend to gifts we do not have.
We also pray for these intentions… (State your need for work here)
Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be
Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful!
Reflection for Today
Today we pray for skill and wisdom. A job search is not only endurance. It is discernment: what can I actually do, and where is that needed?
Proverbs 2:6 says, "The Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding." Ask Him to order your thoughts before an interview, and to show you if a post is wrong even if it pays.
The parable of the talents (Matthew 25) is not a license for ambition without conscience. It is a warning not to bury what God gave. Preparing, studying, and practicing are forms of prayer if they are offered to Him.
If you lack a skill, ask for the humility to learn. If you have a skill, ask for the humility not to despise work that uses only part of it for a season.
Remember that wisdom includes knowing when to wait and when to take the next honest step. The Spirit is not against prudence. He is its source.
How to Make an Excellent Novena
Trust in God
Trust completely in God's ability to provide work in His time. Turn to Him with confidence in every interview, delay, and closed door.
Be Persistent
Pray this novena with persistence and keep looking for work. Prayer and effort belong together. God will not fail those who turn to Him with trust.
Be Specific
Present your specific need: a position, a just wage, a next interview, or the grace to stay in a hard job. God wants to help you with the particular difficulty you face.
Be Grateful
Thank God for skills you already have, for work you have done, and for daily bread so far. Gratitude opens the heart to receive more graces.
Closing Prayer
Heavenly Father, grant us skill and wisdom. Guide our words, our hands, and our choices, that the work we find may be done well for your glory. Come, Holy Spirit. Amen.
