Reflection for Today
Today's Catholic verse of the day is 1 Samuel 31:8: “And on the morrow the Philistines came to strip the slain, and they found Saul and his three sons lying in mount Gelboe.”
Scripture rarely flatters us. It loves us enough to tell the truth, and then it stays with us while we learn to live that truth. 1 Samuel is part of the long story of salvation. Catholics receive it as inspired Scripture, a word that prepares the heart for Christ and still nourishes the Church.
God often changes us less by thunder and more by a line of Scripture that will not leave us alone. If the verse convicts you, do not panic. Take it to Confession when you can, or begin with an honest Act of Contrition tonight.
Prayer
Lord God, thank You for speaking through 1 Samuel 31:8. You said, “And on the morrow the Philistines came to strip the slain, and they found Saul and…” I do not want to rush past these words. Quiet my mind, warm my heart, and help me live what I have heard with faith, hope, and charity. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
