Pause with Deuteronomy 31:5. Hear these words again: “Therefore when the Lord shall have delivered these also to you, you shall do in like manner to them as I have commanded you.”
The Catholic way of reading is never solitary for long. We read with the Church, with the saints, and with the poor Christ still loves. Deuteronomy is part of the long story of salvation. Catholics receive it as inspired Scripture, a word that prepares the heart for Christ and still nourishes the Church.
As you hold this verse, do not force a dramatic feeling. Ask only for faithfulness. If possible, bring this line to Mass or to a brief visit before the Blessed Sacrament. Let Christ finish in silence what the verse began in your thoughts.
Prayer
Father of mercies, I bring You this day and this verse from Deuteronomy 31:5. As I listen to “Therefore when the Lord shall have delivered these also to you, you shall do in like…,” heal what is anxious in me, correct what is proud, and strengthen what is willing to love. Amen.
