Theme: Daily Scripture
“Go, and tell Hananias: Thus saith the Lord: Thou hast broken chains of wood, and thou shalt make for them chains of iron.”
Reflection for Today
The Church sets before us Jeremiah 28:13: “Go, and tell Hananias: Thus saith the Lord: Thou hast broken chains of wood, and thou shalt make for them chains of iron.”
In Jeremiah, the prophetic word unsettles comfort and awakens hope. God loves His people enough to call them back, and enough to promise a future. The Catholic way of reading is never solitary for long. We read with the Church, with the saints, and with the poor Christ still loves.
God often changes us less by thunder and more by a line of Scripture that will not leave us alone. Write one sentence of response in a notebook or phone note: what you hear God asking, promising, or healing. Then do one small act that matches that sentence.
Prayer
Come, Holy Spirit. Open the Scriptures to me as You opened them to the apostles. In Jeremiah 28:13 I hear, “Go, and tell Hananias: Thus saith the Lord: Thou hast broken chains of wood, and…” Give me understanding, give me desire, and give me the grace to obey with joy. Amen.
