Swear to me by the Lord, that thou wilt not destroy my seed after me, nor take away my name from the house of my father.

1 Samuel 24:22

Reflection for Today

Today's Catholic verse of the day is 1 Samuel 24:22: “Swear to me by the Lord, that thou wilt not destroy my seed after me, nor take away my name from the house of my father.”

Scripture rarely flatters us. It loves us enough to tell the truth, and then it stays with us while we learn to live that truth. 1 Samuel is part of the long story of salvation. Catholics receive it as inspired Scripture, a word that prepares the heart for Christ and still nourishes the Church.

God often changes us less by thunder and more by a line of Scripture that will not leave us alone. Share this verse with someone who needs encouragement, not as advice from above, but as a gift you yourself are trying to live.

Prayer

Lord God, thank You for speaking through 1 Samuel 24:22. You said, “Swear to me by the Lord, that thou wilt not destroy my seed after me, nor take away…” I do not want to rush past these words. Quiet my mind, warm my heart, and help me live what I have heard with faith, hope, and charity. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
