Theme: Daily Scripture
“Now therefore, said he, put away strange gods from among you, and incline your hearts to the Lord the God of Israel.”
Reflection for Today
Let Joshua 24:23 speak first, before our plans and worries do: “Now therefore, said he, put away strange gods from among you, and incline your hearts to the Lord the God of Israel.”
Scripture rarely flatters us. It loves us enough to tell the truth, and then it stays with us while we learn to live that truth. Joshua is part of the long story of salvation. Catholics receive it as inspired Scripture, a word that prepares the heart for Christ and still nourishes the Church.
God often changes us less by thunder and more by a line of Scripture that will not leave us alone. Write one sentence of response in a notebook or phone note: what you hear God asking, promising, or healing. Then do one small act that matches that sentence.
Prayer
Lord God, thank You for speaking through Joshua 24:23. You said, “Now therefore, said he, put away strange gods from among you, and incline your…” I do not want to rush past these words. Quiet my mind, warm my heart, and help me live what I have heard with faith, hope, and charity. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
