Theme: Protection

Protection

Remember that thou wast a slave in Egypt, and the Lord thy God delivered thee from thence. Therefore I command thee to do this thing.

Deuteronomy 24:18

Reflection for Today

Let Deuteronomy 24:18 speak first, before our plans and worries do: “Remember that thou wast a slave in Egypt, and the Lord thy God delivered thee from thence. Therefore I command thee to do this thing.”

Deuteronomy is part of the long story of salvation. Catholics receive it as inspired Scripture, a word that prepares the heart for Christ and still nourishes the Church. Read in Catholic faith, this is not a decorative sentence for social media. It is a living word meant to convert, console, and send us back into ordinary life with a quieter heart.

As you hold this verse, do not force a dramatic feeling. Ask only for faithfulness. Pray a decade of the Rosary with this verse in mind. Ask Mary to teach you how to keep God's word and ponder it, as she did.

Prayer

Father of mercies, I bring You this day and this verse from Deuteronomy 24:18. As I listen to “Remember that thou wast a slave in Egypt, and the Lord thy God delivered thee from…,” heal what is anxious in me, correct what is proud, and strengthen what is willing to love. Amen.
