Theme: Protection
“May the Lord hear thee in the day of tribulation: may the name of the God of Jacob protect thee.”
Reflection for Today
The Church sets before us Psalms 19:2: “May the Lord hear thee in the day of tribulation: may the name of the God of Jacob protect thee.”
The Psalms have given voice to every mood of the believer: praise, tears, trust, and longing. What Israel prayed, the Church still sings. The Catholic way of reading is never solitary for long. We read with the Church, with the saints, and with the poor Christ still loves.
As you hold this verse, do not force a dramatic feeling. Ask only for faithfulness. Before the day runs away, sit with this verse for two quiet minutes. Say it slowly. Notice which word stays warm in the heart, and carry that word into one conversation.
Prayer
Father of mercies, I bring You this day and this verse from Psalms 19:2. As I listen to “May the Lord hear thee in the day of tribulation: may the name of the God of Jacob…,” heal what is anxious in me, correct what is proud, and strengthen what is willing to love. Amen.
