Theme: Trust & Providence
“Thus saith the Lord: Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the Lord.”
Reflection for Today
The Church sets before us Jeremiah 17:5: “Thus saith the Lord: Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the Lord.”
A single verse can meet us differently depending on the season we are in: grief, gratitude, fatigue, or new beginnings. In Jeremiah, the prophetic word unsettles comfort and awakens hope. God loves His people enough to call them back, and enough to promise a future.
God often changes us less by thunder and more by a line of Scripture that will not leave us alone. If the verse convicts you, do not panic. Take it to Confession when you can, or begin with an honest Act of Contrition tonight.
Prayer
Holy Trinity, I receive today's verse with the Church. Keep Jeremiah 17:5 close to me. Let “Thus saith the Lord: Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his…” guard my thoughts from morning until night, and let my life quietly agree with Your word. Amen.
