Catholic Verse of the Day

Genesis 16:9

Douay-Rheims Catholic Bible verse for Friday, September 1, 2028, with reflection, prayer, and a link to the full chapter.

Theme: Humility

Humility

And the angel of the Lord said to her: Return to thy mistress, and humble thyself under her hand.

Genesis 16:9

Reflection for Today

Let Genesis 16:9 speak first, before our plans and worries do: “And the angel of the Lord said to her: Return to thy mistress, and humble thyself under her hand.”

Scripture rarely flatters us. It loves us enough to tell the truth, and then it stays with us while we learn to live that truth. Genesis is part of the long story of salvation. Catholics receive it as inspired Scripture, a word that prepares the heart for Christ and still nourishes the Church.

Today's invitation under the theme of Humility is simple and serious. If the verse convicts you, do not panic. Take it to Confession when you can, or begin with an honest Act of Contrition tonight.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, Word made flesh, You still teach Your disciples through Sacred Scripture. Through Genesis 16:9, let “And the angel of the Lord said to her: Return to thy mistress, and humble thyself…” become more than a memory. Make it light for my work, patience for my home, and courage for my vocation. Amen.
