Theme: Daily Scripture
“And he hung up Nicanor's head in the top of the castle, that it might be an evident and manifest sign of the help of God.”
Reflection for Today
Pause with 2 Maccabees 15:35. Hear these words again: “And he hung up Nicanor's head in the top of the castle, that it might be an evident and manifest sign of the help of God.”
The Catholic way of reading is never solitary for long. We read with the Church, with the saints, and with the poor Christ still loves. 2 Maccabees, received in the Catholic canon, shows courage, fidelity, and providence when God's people are tested.
If nothing else remains from this page, let one phrase of 2 Maccabees 15:35 remain. If possible, bring this line to Mass or to a brief visit before the Blessed Sacrament. Let Christ finish in silence what the verse began in your thoughts.
Prayer
Come, Holy Spirit. Open the Scriptures to me as You opened them to the apostles. In 2 Maccabees 15:35 I hear, “And he hung up Nicanor's head in the top of the castle, that it might be an evident…” Give me understanding, give me desire, and give me the grace to obey with joy. Amen.
