“Destroy not the work of God for meat. All things indeed are clean: but it is evil for that man who eateth with offence.”
Reflection for Today
The Church sets before us Romans 14:20: “Destroy not the work of God for meat. All things indeed are clean: but it is evil for that man who eateth with offence.”
Romans comes from the apostolic age, when the first communities were learning how to live the Gospel in ordinary struggles. The Church still listens here for guidance. The Catholic way of reading is never solitary for long. We read with the Church, with the saints, and with the poor Christ still loves.
If nothing else remains from this page, let one phrase of Romans 14:20 remain. Pray a decade of the Rosary with this verse in mind. Ask Mary to teach you how to keep God's word and ponder it, as she did.
Prayer
Holy Trinity, I receive today's verse with the Church. Keep Romans 14:20 close to me. Let “Destroy not the work of God for meat. All things indeed are clean: but it is evil…” guard my thoughts from morning until night, and let my life quietly agree with Your word. Amen.
