Theme: Strength

LoveStrength

But my brethren, that had gone up with me, discouraged the heart of the people: and I nevertheless followed the Lord my God.

Joshua 14:8

Reflection for Today

Let Joshua 14:8 speak first, before our plans and worries do: “But my brethren, that had gone up with me, discouraged the heart of the people: and I nevertheless followed the Lord my God.”

God's strength does not always remove the weight. Sometimes it teaches us how to carry it without losing charity. Joshua is part of the long story of salvation. Catholics receive it as inspired Scripture, a word that prepares the heart for Christ and still nourishes the Church.

If nothing else remains from this page, let one phrase of Joshua 14:8 remain. Pray a decade of the Rosary with this verse in mind. Ask Mary to teach you how to keep God's word and ponder it, as she did.

Prayer

Come, Holy Spirit. Open the Scriptures to me as You opened them to the apostles. In Joshua 14:8 I hear, “But my brethren, that had gone up with me, discouraged the heart of the people: and…” Give me understanding, give me desire, and give me the grace to obey with joy. Amen.
