Reflection for Today
Pause with Deuteronomy 14:2. Hear these words again: “Because thou art a holy people to the Lord thy God: and he chose thee to be his peculiar people of all nations that are upon the earth.”
The Catholic way of reading is never solitary for long. We read with the Church, with the saints, and with the poor Christ still loves. Deuteronomy is part of the long story of salvation. Catholics receive it as inspired Scripture, a word that prepares the heart for Christ and still nourishes the Church.
Today's invitation under the theme of Daily Scripture is simple and serious. If the verse convicts you, do not panic. Take it to Confession when you can, or begin with an honest Act of Contrition tonight.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, Word made flesh, You still teach Your disciples through Sacred Scripture. Through Deuteronomy 14:2, let “Because thou art a holy people to the Lord thy God: and he chose thee to be his…” become more than a memory. Make it light for my work, patience for my home, and courage for my vocation. Amen.
