And blessed be the most high God, by whose protection, the enemies are in thy hands. And he gave him the tithes of all.

Genesis 14:20

Reflection for Today

Let Genesis 14:20 speak first, before our plans and worries do: “And blessed be the most high God, by whose protection, the enemies are in thy hands. And he gave him the tithes of all.”

Scripture rarely flatters us. It loves us enough to tell the truth, and then it stays with us while we learn to live that truth. Genesis is part of the long story of salvation. Catholics receive it as inspired Scripture, a word that prepares the heart for Christ and still nourishes the Church.

If nothing else remains from this page, let one phrase of Genesis 14:20 remain. Write one sentence of response in a notebook or phone note: what you hear God asking, promising, or healing. Then do one small act that matches that sentence.

Prayer

Holy Trinity, I receive today's verse with the Church. Keep Genesis 14:20 close to me. Let “And blessed be the most high God, by whose protection, the enemies are in thy hands.…” guard my thoughts from morning until night, and let my life quietly agree with Your word. Amen.
