Then they lying prostrate for three hours upon their face, blessed God, and rising up, they told all his wonderful works.

Reflection for Today

The Church sets before us Tobit 12:22: “Then they lying prostrate for three hours upon their face, blessed God, and rising up, they told all his wonderful works.”

A single verse can meet us differently depending on the season we are in: grief, gratitude, fatigue, or new beginnings. Tobit, received in the Catholic canon, shows courage, fidelity, and providence when God's people are tested.

As you hold this verse, do not force a dramatic feeling. Ask only for faithfulness. If the verse consoles you, do not rush past the comfort. Gratitude is also a form of obedience.

Prayer

Father of mercies, I bring You this day and this verse from Tobit 12:22. As I listen to “Then they lying prostrate for three hours upon their face, blessed God, and rising…,” heal what is anxious in me, correct what is proud, and strengthen what is willing to love. Amen.
