Work & Service

And he took and put to the sword and destroyed all the cities round about, and their kings, as Moses the servant of God had commanded him.

Joshua 11:12

Reflection for Today

Pause with Joshua 11:12. Hear these words again: “And he took and put to the sword and destroyed all the cities round about, and their kings, as Moses the servant of God had commanded him.”

Joshua is part of the long story of salvation. Catholics receive it as inspired Scripture, a word that prepares the heart for Christ and still nourishes the Church. Scripture rarely flatters us. It loves us enough to tell the truth, and then it stays with us while we learn to live that truth.

God often changes us less by thunder and more by a line of Scripture that will not leave us alone. Pray a decade of the Rosary with this verse in mind. Ask Mary to teach you how to keep God's word and ponder it, as she did.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, Word made flesh, You still teach Your disciples through Sacred Scripture. Through Joshua 11:12, let “And he took and put to the sword and destroyed all the cities round about, and their…” become more than a memory. Make it light for my work, patience for my home, and courage for my vocation. Amen.
