Theme: Daily Scripture
“For we stretch not ourselves beyond our measure, as if we reached not unto you. For we are come as far as to you in the Gospel of Christ.”
Reflection for Today
The Church sets before us 2 Corinthians 10:14: “For we stretch not ourselves beyond our measure, as if we reached not unto you. For we are come as far as to you in the Gospel of Christ.”
2 Corinthians comes from the apostolic age, when the first communities were learning how to live the Gospel in ordinary struggles. The Church still listens here for guidance. The Catholic way of reading is never solitary for long. We read with the Church, with the saints, and with the poor Christ still loves.
As you hold this verse, do not force a dramatic feeling. Ask only for faithfulness. If the verse consoles you, do not rush past the comfort. Gratitude is also a form of obedience.
Prayer
Holy Trinity, I receive today's verse with the Church. Keep 2 Corinthians 10:14 close to me. Let “For we stretch not ourselves beyond our measure, as if we reached not unto you. For…” guard my thoughts from morning until night, and let my life quietly agree with Your word. Amen.
