Theme: Strength
“Do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than he? All things are lawful for me: but all things are not expedient.”
Reflection for Today
Today's Catholic verse of the day is 1 Corinthians 10:22: “Do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than he? All things are lawful for me: but all things are not expedient.”
1 Corinthians comes from the apostolic age, when the first communities were learning how to live the Gospel in ordinary struggles. The Church still listens here for guidance. True strength in Scripture is often quiet. It is the courage to remain faithful when quitting would be easier.
God often changes us less by thunder and more by a line of Scripture that will not leave us alone. Write one sentence of response in a notebook or phone note: what you hear God asking, promising, or healing. Then do one small act that matches that sentence.
Prayer
Lord God, thank You for speaking through 1 Corinthians 10:22. You said, “Do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than he? All things are lawful…” I do not want to rush past these words. Quiet my mind, warm my heart, and help me live what I have heard with faith, hope, and charity. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
