Theme: Peace
“And their inclinations were towards Alexander, because he had been the chief promoter of peace in their regard, and him they always helped.”
Reflection for Today
Let 1 Maccabees 10:47 speak first, before our plans and worries do: “And their inclinations were towards Alexander, because he had been the chief promoter of peace in their regard, and him they always helped.”
1 Maccabees, received in the Catholic canon, shows courage, fidelity, and providence when God's people are tested. Many of us carry quiet fear into work, family, and prayer. This verse does not shame that fear. It invites us to bring it into the light of God.
Today's invitation under the theme of Peace is simple and serious. Before the day runs away, sit with this verse for two quiet minutes. Say it slowly. Notice which word stays warm in the heart, and carry that word into one conversation.
Prayer
Come, Holy Spirit. Open the Scriptures to me as You opened them to the apostles. In 1 Maccabees 10:47 I hear, “And their inclinations were towards Alexander, because he had been the chief…” Give me understanding, give me desire, and give me the grace to obey with joy. Amen.
