Reflection for Today
Pause with 2 Maccabees 10:1. Hear these words again: “But Machabeus, and they that were with him, by the protection of the Lord, recovered the temple and the city again.”
The Catholic way of reading is never solitary for long. We read with the Church, with the saints, and with the poor Christ still loves. 2 Maccabees, received in the Catholic canon, shows courage, fidelity, and providence when God's people are tested.
God often changes us less by thunder and more by a line of Scripture that will not leave us alone. If possible, bring this line to Mass or to a brief visit before the Blessed Sacrament. Let Christ finish in silence what the verse began in your thoughts.
Prayer
Lord God, thank You for speaking through 2 Maccabees 10:1. You said, “But Machabeus, and they that were with him, by the protection of the Lord, recovered…” I do not want to rush past these words. Quiet my mind, warm my heart, and help me live what I have heard with faith, hope, and charity. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
