Theme: Daily Scripture
“Have we not power to carry about a woman, a sister as well as the rest of the apostles and the brethren of the Lord and Cephas?”
Reflection for Today
Pause with 1 Corinthians 9:5. Hear these words again: “Have we not power to carry about a woman, a sister as well as the rest of the apostles and the brethren of the Lord and Cephas?”
The Catholic way of reading is never solitary for long. We read with the Church, with the saints, and with the poor Christ still loves. 1 Corinthians comes from the apostolic age, when the first communities were learning how to live the Gospel in ordinary struggles. The Church still listens here for guidance.
If nothing else remains from this page, let one phrase of 1 Corinthians 9:5 remain. Before the day runs away, sit with this verse for two quiet minutes. Say it slowly. Notice which word stays warm in the heart, and carry that word into one conversation.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, Word made flesh, You still teach Your disciples through Sacred Scripture. Through 1 Corinthians 9:5, let “Have we not power to carry about a woman, a sister as well as the rest of the…” become more than a memory. Make it light for my work, patience for my home, and courage for my vocation. Amen.
