Theme: Daily Scripture
“And he said: Are these the cities which thou hast given me, brother? And he called them the land of Chabul, unto this day.”
Reflection for Today
Pause with 1 Kings 9:13. Hear these words again: “And he said: Are these the cities which thou hast given me, brother? And he called them the land of Chabul, unto this day.”
The Catholic way of reading is never solitary for long. We read with the Church, with the saints, and with the poor Christ still loves. 1 Kings is part of the long story of salvation. Catholics receive it as inspired Scripture, a word that prepares the heart for Christ and still nourishes the Church.
God often changes us less by thunder and more by a line of Scripture that will not leave us alone. If possible, bring this line to Mass or to a brief visit before the Blessed Sacrament. Let Christ finish in silence what the verse began in your thoughts.
Prayer
Come, Holy Spirit. Open the Scriptures to me as You opened them to the apostles. In 1 Kings 9:13 I hear, “And he said: Are these the cities which thou hast given me, brother? And he called…” Give me understanding, give me desire, and give me the grace to obey with joy. Amen.
