Theme: Daily Scripture
“And David said: Is there any one, think you, left of the house of Saul, that I may shew kindness to him for Jonathan's sake?”
Reflection for Today
Today's Catholic verse of the day is 2 Samuel 9:1: “And David said: Is there any one, think you, left of the house of Saul, that I may shew kindness to him for Jonathan's sake?”
Scripture rarely flatters us. It loves us enough to tell the truth, and then it stays with us while we learn to live that truth. 2 Samuel is part of the long story of salvation. Catholics receive it as inspired Scripture, a word that prepares the heart for Christ and still nourishes the Church.
If nothing else remains from this page, let one phrase of 2 Samuel 9:1 remain. If possible, bring this line to Mass or to a brief visit before the Blessed Sacrament. Let Christ finish in silence what the verse began in your thoughts.
Prayer
Come, Holy Spirit. Open the Scriptures to me as You opened them to the apostles. In 2 Samuel 9:1 I hear, “And David said: Is there any one, think you, left of the house of Saul, that I may…” Give me understanding, give me desire, and give me the grace to obey with joy. Amen.
