Reflection for Today
Pause with Daniel 8:16. Hear these words again: “And I heard the voice of a man between Ulai: and he called, and said: Gabriel, make this man to understand the vision.”
The Catholic way of reading is never solitary for long. We read with the Church, with the saints, and with the poor Christ still loves. In Daniel, the prophetic word unsettles comfort and awakens hope. God loves His people enough to call them back, and enough to promise a future.
As you hold this verse, do not force a dramatic feeling. Ask only for faithfulness. Pray a decade of the Rosary with this verse in mind. Ask Mary to teach you how to keep God's word and ponder it, as she did.
Prayer
Come, Holy Spirit. Open the Scriptures to me as You opened them to the apostles. In Daniel 8:16 I hear, “And I heard the voice of a man between Ulai: and he called, and said: Gabriel, make…” Give me understanding, give me desire, and give me the grace to obey with joy. Amen.
