Theme: Salvation
“For the sorrow that is according to God worketh penance, steadfast unto salvation: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.”
Reflection for Today
The Church sets before us 2 Corinthians 7:10: “For the sorrow that is according to God worketh penance, steadfast unto salvation: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.”
A single verse can meet us differently depending on the season we are in: grief, gratitude, fatigue, or new beginnings. 2 Corinthians comes from the apostolic age, when the first communities were learning how to live the Gospel in ordinary struggles. The Church still listens here for guidance.
Today's invitation under the theme of Salvation is simple and serious. Before the day runs away, sit with this verse for two quiet minutes. Say it slowly. Notice which word stays warm in the heart, and carry that word into one conversation.
Prayer
Come, Holy Spirit. Open the Scriptures to me as You opened them to the apostles. In 2 Corinthians 7:10 I hear, “For the sorrow that is according to God worketh penance, steadfast unto salvation:…” Give me understanding, give me desire, and give me the grace to obey with joy. Amen.
