Theme: Daily Scripture
“But thou that hast been the author of all mischief against the Hebrews, shalt not escape the hand of God.”
Reflection for Today
The Church sets before us 2 Maccabees 7:31: “But thou that hast been the author of all mischief against the Hebrews, shalt not escape the hand of God.”
2 Maccabees, received in the Catholic canon, shows courage, fidelity, and providence when God's people are tested. The Catholic way of reading is never solitary for long. We read with the Church, with the saints, and with the poor Christ still loves.
God often changes us less by thunder and more by a line of Scripture that will not leave us alone. If the verse consoles you, do not rush past the comfort. Gratitude is also a form of obedience.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, Word made flesh, You still teach Your disciples through Sacred Scripture. Through 2 Maccabees 7:31, let “But thou that hast been the author of all mischief against the Hebrews, shalt not…” become more than a memory. Make it light for my work, patience for my home, and courage for my vocation. Amen.
