Then Jesus said to them: I ask you, if it be lawful on the sabbath days to do good or to do evil? To save life or to destroy?

Luke 6:9

Reflection for Today

Today's Catholic verse of the day is Luke 6:9: “Then Jesus said to them: I ask you, if it be lawful on the sabbath days to do good or to do evil? To save life or to destroy?”

Scripture rarely flatters us. It loves us enough to tell the truth, and then it stays with us while we learn to live that truth. Luke does not give us a distant memory of Jesus. It places us in His company, where every word can become prayer.

Today's invitation under the theme of Salvation is simple and serious. If possible, bring this line to Mass or to a brief visit before the Blessed Sacrament. Let Christ finish in silence what the verse began in your thoughts.

Prayer

Father of mercies, I bring You this day and this verse from Luke 6:9. As I listen to “Then Jesus said to them: I ask you, if it be lawful on the sabbath days to do good…,” heal what is anxious in me, correct what is proud, and strengthen what is willing to love. Amen.
