Catholic Verse of the Day

John 6:64

Douay-Rheims Catholic Bible verse for Sunday, August 22, 2027, with reflection, prayer, and a link to the full chapter.

Theme: Holy Spirit

Holy Spirit

It is the spirit that quickeneth: the flesh profiteth nothing. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life.

John 6:64

Reflection for Today

The Church sets before us John 6:64: “It is the spirit that quickeneth: the flesh profiteth nothing. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life.”

The Church treasures John because the Gospel is the face of Christ in human language, meant to be heard with faith. Read in Catholic faith, this is not a decorative sentence for social media. It is a living word meant to convert, console, and send us back into ordinary life with a quieter heart.

As you hold this verse, do not force a dramatic feeling. Ask only for faithfulness. Before the day runs away, sit with this verse for two quiet minutes. Say it slowly. Notice which word stays warm in the heart, and carry that word into one conversation.

Prayer

Father of mercies, I bring You this day and this verse from John 6:64. As I listen to “It is the spirit that quickeneth: the flesh profiteth nothing. The words that I have…,” heal what is anxious in me, correct what is proud, and strengthen what is willing to love. Amen.
