Catholic Verse of the Day

Mark 6:4

Douay-Rheims Catholic Bible verse for Friday, August 20, 2027, with reflection, prayer, and a link to the full chapter.

Theme: Daily Scripture

And Jesus said to them: A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and in his own house, and among his own kindred.

Mark 6:4

Reflection for Today

Let Mark 6:4 speak first, before our plans and worries do: “And Jesus said to them: A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and in his own house, and among his own kindred.”

Scripture rarely flatters us. It loves us enough to tell the truth, and then it stays with us while we learn to live that truth. Mark does not give us a distant memory of Jesus. It places us in His company, where every word can become prayer.

Today's invitation under the theme of Daily Scripture is simple and serious. Pray a decade of the Rosary with this verse in mind. Ask Mary to teach you how to keep God's word and ponder it, as she did.

Prayer

Come, Holy Spirit. Open the Scriptures to me as You opened them to the apostles. In Mark 6:4 I hear, “And Jesus said to them: A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and…” Give me understanding, give me desire, and give me the grace to obey with joy. Amen.
