Saying: The God of our fathers, whose power thou hast set forth, will make this return to thee, that thou rather shalt see their destruction.

Judith 6:17

Reflection for Today

The Church sets before us Judith 6:17: “Saying: The God of our fathers, whose power thou hast set forth, will make this return to thee, that thou rather shalt see their destruction.”

A single verse can meet us differently depending on the season we are in: grief, gratitude, fatigue, or new beginnings. Judith, received in the Catholic canon, shows courage, fidelity, and providence when God's people are tested.

God often changes us less by thunder and more by a line of Scripture that will not leave us alone. Pray a decade of the Rosary with this verse in mind. Ask Mary to teach you how to keep God's word and ponder it, as she did.

Prayer

Come, Holy Spirit. Open the Scriptures to me as You opened them to the apostles. In Judith 6:17 I hear, “Saying: The God of our fathers, whose power thou hast set forth, will make this…” Give me understanding, give me desire, and give me the grace to obey with joy. Amen.
