And hope confoundeth not: because the charity of God is poured forth in our hearts, by the Holy Ghost who is given to us.

Romans 5:5

Reflection for Today

Pause with Romans 5:5. Hear these words again: “And hope confoundeth not: because the charity of God is poured forth in our hearts, by the Holy Ghost who is given to us.”

Romans comes from the apostolic age, when the first communities were learning how to live the Gospel in ordinary struggles. The Church still listens here for guidance. If this verse speaks of love, it invites a question that is quietly demanding: whom am I being asked to love more concretely today?

As you hold this verse, do not force a dramatic feeling. Ask only for faithfulness. Share this verse with someone who needs encouragement, not as advice from above, but as a gift you yourself are trying to live.

Prayer

Come, Holy Spirit. Open the Scriptures to me as You opened them to the apostles. In Romans 5:5 I hear, “And hope confoundeth not: because the charity of God is poured forth in our hearts,…” Give me understanding, give me desire, and give me the grace to obey with joy. Amen.
