Catholic Verse of the Day

Matthew 5:33

Douay-Rheims Catholic Bible verse for Sunday, June 27, 2027, with reflection, prayer, and a link to the full chapter.

Theme: Daily Scripture

Again you have heard that it was said to them of old, thou shalt not forswear thyself: but thou shalt perform thy oaths to the Lord.

Matthew 5:33

Reflection for Today

Pause with Matthew 5:33. Hear these words again: “Again you have heard that it was said to them of old, thou shalt not forswear thyself: but thou shalt perform thy oaths to the Lord.”

Matthew does not give us a distant memory of Jesus. It places us in His company, where every word can become prayer. Scripture rarely flatters us. It loves us enough to tell the truth, and then it stays with us while we learn to live that truth.

God often changes us less by thunder and more by a line of Scripture that will not leave us alone. If the verse consoles you, do not rush past the comfort. Gratitude is also a form of obedience.

Prayer

Lord God, thank You for speaking through Matthew 5:33. You said, “Again you have heard that it was said to them of old, thou shalt not forswear…” I do not want to rush past these words. Quiet my mind, warm my heart, and help me live what I have heard with faith, hope, and charity. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
