Theme: Daily Scripture
“But God did not choose the people for the place's sake, but the place for the people's sake.”
Reflection for Today
Pause with 2 Maccabees 5:19. Hear these words again: “But God did not choose the people for the place's sake, but the place for the people's sake.”
2 Maccabees, received in the Catholic canon, shows courage, fidelity, and providence when God's people are tested. Read in Catholic faith, this is not a decorative sentence for social media. It is a living word meant to convert, console, and send us back into ordinary life with a quieter heart.
As you hold this verse, do not force a dramatic feeling. Ask only for faithfulness. If the verse consoles you, do not rush past the comfort. Gratitude is also a form of obedience.
Prayer
Come, Holy Spirit. Open the Scriptures to me as You opened them to the apostles. In 2 Maccabees 5:19 I hear, “But God did not choose the people for the place's sake, but the place for the…” Give me understanding, give me desire, and give me the grace to obey with joy. Amen.
