Theme: Peace
“And they went up to mount Sion with joy and gladness, and offered holocausts, because not one of them was slain, till they had returned in peace.”
Reflection for Today
The Church sets before us 1 Maccabees 5:54: “And they went up to mount Sion with joy and gladness, and offered holocausts, because not one of them was slain, till they had returned in peace.”
1 Maccabees, received in the Catholic canon, shows courage, fidelity, and providence when God's people are tested. Read in Catholic faith, this is not a decorative sentence for social media. It is a living word meant to convert, console, and send us back into ordinary life with a quieter heart.
God often changes us less by thunder and more by a line of Scripture that will not leave us alone. If the verse convicts you, do not panic. Take it to Confession when you can, or begin with an honest Act of Contrition tonight.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, Word made flesh, You still teach Your disciples through Sacred Scripture. Through 1 Maccabees 5:54, let “And they went up to mount Sion with joy and gladness, and offered holocausts,…” become more than a memory. Make it light for my work, patience for my home, and courage for my vocation. Amen.
