Pause with Nehemiah 5:16. Hear these words again: “Moreover I built in the work of the wall, and I bought no land, and all my servants were gathered together to the work.”
Nehemiah is part of the long story of salvation. Catholics receive it as inspired Scripture, a word that prepares the heart for Christ and still nourishes the Church. Read in Catholic faith, this is not a decorative sentence for social media. It is a living word meant to convert, console, and send us back into ordinary life with a quieter heart.
God often changes us less by thunder and more by a line of Scripture that will not leave us alone. Pray a decade of the Rosary with this verse in mind. Ask Mary to teach you how to keep God's word and ponder it, as she did.
Prayer
Come, Holy Spirit. Open the Scriptures to me as You opened them to the apostles. In Nehemiah 5:16 I hear, “Moreover I built in the work of the wall, and I bought no land, and all my servants…” Give me understanding, give me desire, and give me the grace to obey with joy. Amen.
