Theme: Daily Scripture
“But in the first year of Cyrus the king of Babylon, king Cyrus set forth a decree, that this house of God should be built.”
Reflection for Today
Today's Catholic verse of the day is Ezra 5:13: “But in the first year of Cyrus the king of Babylon, king Cyrus set forth a decree, that this house of God should be built.”
Ezra is part of the long story of salvation. Catholics receive it as inspired Scripture, a word that prepares the heart for Christ and still nourishes the Church. A single verse can meet us differently depending on the season we are in: grief, gratitude, fatigue, or new beginnings.
God often changes us less by thunder and more by a line of Scripture that will not leave us alone. If the verse consoles you, do not rush past the comfort. Gratitude is also a form of obedience.
Prayer
Father of mercies, I bring You this day and this verse from Ezra 5:13. As I listen to “But in the first year of Cyrus the king of Babylon, king Cyrus set forth a decree,…,” heal what is anxious in me, correct what is proud, and strengthen what is willing to love. Amen.
