Theme: Daily Scripture
“But he answered: As the Lord liveth, before whom I stand, I will receive none. And when he pressed him, he still refused.”
Reflection for Today
The Church sets before us 2 Kings 5:16: “But he answered: As the Lord liveth, before whom I stand, I will receive none. And when he pressed him, he still refused.”
A single verse can meet us differently depending on the season we are in: grief, gratitude, fatigue, or new beginnings. 2 Kings is part of the long story of salvation. Catholics receive it as inspired Scripture, a word that prepares the heart for Christ and still nourishes the Church.
If nothing else remains from this page, let one phrase of 2 Kings 5:16 remain. If the verse convicts you, do not panic. Take it to Confession when you can, or begin with an honest Act of Contrition tonight.
Prayer
Holy Trinity, I receive today's verse with the Church. Keep 2 Kings 5:16 close to me. Let “But he answered: As the Lord liveth, before whom I stand, I will receive none. And…” guard my thoughts from morning until night, and let my life quietly agree with Your word. Amen.
