Theme: Daily Scripture
“And Moses returned to the Lord, and said: Lord, why hast thou afflicted this people? wherefore hast thou sent me?”
Reflection for Today
Let Exodus 5:22 speak first, before our plans and worries do: “And Moses returned to the Lord, and said: Lord, why hast thou afflicted this people? wherefore hast thou sent me?”
Scripture rarely flatters us. It loves us enough to tell the truth, and then it stays with us while we learn to live that truth. Exodus is part of the long story of salvation. Catholics receive it as inspired Scripture, a word that prepares the heart for Christ and still nourishes the Church.
As you hold this verse, do not force a dramatic feeling. Ask only for faithfulness. If the verse consoles you, do not rush past the comfort. Gratitude is also a form of obedience.
Prayer
Father of mercies, I bring You this day and this verse from Exodus 5:22. As I listen to “And Moses returned to the Lord, and said: Lord, why hast thou afflicted this people?…,” heal what is anxious in me, correct what is proud, and strengthen what is willing to love. Amen.
