Theme: Family

Family

Better is a child that is poor and wise, than a king that is old and foolish, who knoweth not to foresee for hereafter.

Ecclesiastes 4:13

Reflection for Today

The Church sets before us Ecclesiastes 4:13: “Better is a child that is poor and wise, than a king that is old and foolish, who knoweth not to foresee for hereafter.”

Ecclesiastes belongs to the wisdom books, where faith meets daily decisions. Holiness is not only for extraordinary moments; it is learned in ordinary choices. The Catholic way of reading is never solitary for long. We read with the Church, with the saints, and with the poor Christ still loves.

Today's invitation under the theme of Family is simple and serious. If possible, bring this line to Mass or to a brief visit before the Blessed Sacrament. Let Christ finish in silence what the verse began in your thoughts.

Prayer

Father of mercies, I bring You this day and this verse from Ecclesiastes 4:13. As I listen to “Better is a child that is poor and wise, than a king that is old and foolish, who…,” heal what is anxious in me, correct what is proud, and strengthen what is willing to love. Amen.
