The Church sets before us Numbers 4:45: “This is the number of the sons of Merari, whom Moses and Aaron reckoned up according to the commandment of the Lord by the hand of Moses.”
Numbers is part of the long story of salvation. Catholics receive it as inspired Scripture, a word that prepares the heart for Christ and still nourishes the Church. The Catholic way of reading is never solitary for long. We read with the Church, with the saints, and with the poor Christ still loves.
If nothing else remains from this page, let one phrase of Numbers 4:45 remain. If the verse convicts you, do not panic. Take it to Confession when you can, or begin with an honest Act of Contrition tonight.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, Word made flesh, You still teach Your disciples through Sacred Scripture. Through Numbers 4:45, let “This is the number of the sons of Merari, whom Moses and Aaron reckoned up according…” become more than a memory. Make it light for my work, patience for my home, and courage for my vocation. Amen.
