Reflection for Today
Pause with 2 Thessalonians 3:4. Hear these words again: “And we have confidence concerning you in the Lord that the things which we command, you both do and will do.”
The Catholic way of reading is never solitary for long. We read with the Church, with the saints, and with the poor Christ still loves. 2 Thessalonians comes from the apostolic age, when the first communities were learning how to live the Gospel in ordinary struggles. The Church still listens here for guidance.
As you hold this verse, do not force a dramatic feeling. Ask only for faithfulness. If possible, bring this line to Mass or to a brief visit before the Blessed Sacrament. Let Christ finish in silence what the verse began in your thoughts.
Prayer
Come, Holy Spirit. Open the Scriptures to me as You opened them to the apostles. In 2 Thessalonians 3:4 I hear, “And we have confidence concerning you in the Lord that the things which we command,…” Give me understanding, give me desire, and give me the grace to obey with joy. Amen.
