Theme: Protection

I have slept and have taken my rest: and I have risen up, because the Lord hath protected me.

Psalms 3:6

Reflection for Today

Pause with Psalms 3:6. Hear these words again: “I have slept and have taken my rest: and I have risen up, because the Lord hath protected me.”

The Catholic way of reading is never solitary for long. We read with the Church, with the saints, and with the poor Christ still loves. The Psalms have given voice to every mood of the believer: praise, tears, trust, and longing. What Israel prayed, the Church still sings.

God often changes us less by thunder and more by a line of Scripture that will not leave us alone. If possible, bring this line to Mass or to a brief visit before the Blessed Sacrament. Let Christ finish in silence what the verse began in your thoughts.

Prayer

Lord God, thank You for speaking through Psalms 3:6. You said, “I have slept and have taken my rest: and I have risen up, because the Lord hath…” I do not want to rush past these words. Quiet my mind, warm my heart, and help me live what I have heard with faith, hope, and charity. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
