Reflection for Today
The Church sets before us Colossians 2:20: “If then you be dead with Christ from the elements of this world, why do you yet decree as though living in the world?”
A single verse can meet us differently depending on the season we are in: grief, gratitude, fatigue, or new beginnings. Colossians comes from the apostolic age, when the first communities were learning how to live the Gospel in ordinary struggles. The Church still listens here for guidance.
As you hold this verse, do not force a dramatic feeling. Ask only for faithfulness. If the verse convicts you, do not panic. Take it to Confession when you can, or begin with an honest Act of Contrition tonight.
Prayer
Father of mercies, I bring You this day and this verse from Colossians 2:20. As I listen to “If then you be dead with Christ from the elements of this world, why do you yet…,” heal what is anxious in me, correct what is proud, and strengthen what is willing to love. Amen.
