Theme: Work & Service
“The wheat therefore, and the barley and the oil, and the wine, which thou, my lord, hast promised, send to thy servants.”
Reflection for Today
The Church sets before us 2 Chronicles 2:15: “The wheat therefore, and the barley and the oil, and the wine, which thou, my lord, hast promised, send to thy servants.”
2 Chronicles is part of the long story of salvation. Catholics receive it as inspired Scripture, a word that prepares the heart for Christ and still nourishes the Church. The Catholic way of reading is never solitary for long. We read with the Church, with the saints, and with the poor Christ still loves.
God often changes us less by thunder and more by a line of Scripture that will not leave us alone. If the verse consoles you, do not rush past the comfort. Gratitude is also a form of obedience.
Prayer
Lord God, thank You for speaking through 2 Chronicles 2:15. You said, “The wheat therefore, and the barley and the oil, and the wine, which thou, my lord,…” I do not want to rush past these words. Quiet my mind, warm my heart, and help me live what I have heard with faith, hope, and charity. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
