“And when Hesron was dead, Caleb went in to Ephrata. Hesron also had to wife Abia who bore him Ashur the father of Thecua.”
Reflection for Today
The Church sets before us 1 Chronicles 2:24: “And when Hesron was dead, Caleb went in to Ephrata. Hesron also had to wife Abia who bore him Ashur the father of Thecua.”
A single verse can meet us differently depending on the season we are in: grief, gratitude, fatigue, or new beginnings. 1 Chronicles is part of the long story of salvation. Catholics receive it as inspired Scripture, a word that prepares the heart for Christ and still nourishes the Church.
If nothing else remains from this page, let one phrase of 1 Chronicles 2:24 remain. Pray a decade of the Rosary with this verse in mind. Ask Mary to teach you how to keep God's word and ponder it, as she did.
Prayer
Father of mercies, I bring You this day and this verse from 1 Chronicles 2:24. As I listen to “And when Hesron was dead, Caleb went in to Ephrata. Hesron also had to wife Abia who…,” heal what is anxious in me, correct what is proud, and strengthen what is willing to love. Amen.
