And he blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

Genesis 2:3

Reflection for Today

The Church sets before us Genesis 2:3: “And he blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.”

A single verse can meet us differently depending on the season we are in: grief, gratitude, fatigue, or new beginnings. Genesis is part of the long story of salvation. Catholics receive it as inspired Scripture, a word that prepares the heart for Christ and still nourishes the Church.

God often changes us less by thunder and more by a line of Scripture that will not leave us alone. If the verse consoles you, do not rush past the comfort. Gratitude is also a form of obedience.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, Word made flesh, You still teach Your disciples through Sacred Scripture. Through Genesis 2:3, let “And he blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because in it he had rested from…” become more than a memory. Make it light for my work, patience for my home, and courage for my vocation. Amen.
