Reflection for Today
The Church sets before us 1 John 1:5: “And this is the declaration which we have heard from him and declare unto you: That God is light and in him there is no darkness.”
1 John comes from the apostolic age, when the first communities were learning how to live the Gospel in ordinary struggles. The Church still listens here for guidance. The Catholic way of reading is never solitary for long. We read with the Church, with the saints, and with the poor Christ still loves.
As you hold this verse, do not force a dramatic feeling. Ask only for faithfulness. Share this verse with someone who needs encouragement, not as advice from above, but as a gift you yourself are trying to live.
Prayer
Lord God, thank You for speaking through 1 John 1:5. You said, “And this is the declaration which we have heard from him and declare unto you: That…” I do not want to rush past these words. Quiet my mind, warm my heart, and help me live what I have heard with faith, hope, and charity. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
